The red carpet was laid out as the 120 guests entered The British Academy of Film & Television Arts to enjoy a fun packed evening of entertainment, good food, wine and song; all in the name of raising funds for LimbPower. The launch of our charity was a phenomenal success with guest s making an incredible effort to dress as icons of the silver screen, movie stars, TV and cartoon characters. The event had a carnival atmosphere where smurfs, gladiators and superheroes danced the night away, while Homer and Marge Simpson played their hand at roulette and black jack alongside Captain Jack Sparrow and Batman.
The entertainers were second to none, with Gypsy, a 5 piece live band with lead singer Kelly Richards and supported by Charlotte Inglis , and a guest appearance from Saxaphonist James Herman together with a medley of musicals by drama student Sarah Dungworth . Tracey Jones, a belly dancing teacher and amputee gave an incredible demonstration and conducted lessons throughout the evening. (www.liveyourspirit.com)
After costs the charity made a profit of £4,000, which has been shared between the Hike Kilimanjaro trekkers to support their efforts as they prepare to climb Mount Kilimanjaro to raise funds for the Amputee Games and the Winter Games to be held in Sheffield in 2011.
Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this event and for making such an incredible effort. Your support is truly appreciated.
The events of the evening were captured by professional photographer and amputee Andrew Skinner and can be viewed here.
