Learning to Cycle Blog 3

One day Sophie came out and handed me Sharron's phone number, she told me she had asked whether I would be able to do the class and the answer had been without hesitation 'yes'. So often that question is met with a mmmmm let me think, um well...

Over the next couple of days Sophie nagged me to ring, Sharron arranged to meet me on a Sunday morning, in her own time on a 1:1 basis. I later learned this was her 1 day off, she spent ages and I mean ages, trying to get the settings right while I am ashamed to say behaved a little like a petulant child, still not believing I could get comfy but ..... I did. It felt amazing and, for a short while, the off load gave me the feeling that my leg was back, from day 1 I was addicted.

I had a few problems with my leg falling off and managing the dead space at the top and bottom of the pedal stroke. The falling off was managed with a sweat sock or swift wick, while the dead space has improved with increasing strength and fitness but is something I have to keep working on. A happy side to this new hobby was my weight started to fall,a I had gained 3 stone post accident and had gone up 3 dress sizes. As the weight fell my socket stopped fitting well, so it was back to Dorset orthopaedic.Previously a new socket took between 4 - 6 weeks to be right but for some reason this new socket took 10 months. I am so grateful for Moose's perseverance and patience , and all the casts recasts test sockets and lots of coffee while sitting knitting ,of all things socks, in limb clinics.
